Reels and Stories Are Different From Regular Videos
Facebook Reels and Stories are served through different technical systems than standard video posts, which means the download process is slightly different. Reels are short-form vertical videos, while Stories are temporary posts that disappear after 24 hours. Both can be saved — here's exactly how.
Downloading Facebook Reels
On Desktop
- Navigate to the Reel you want to download on facebook.com.
- Click the three-dot menu (⋮) on the Reel and select "Copy Link."
- Open a Facebook Reel downloader tool in a new tab — make sure it specifically mentions Reels support.
- Paste the link into the input field and click Download.
- Choose your preferred quality and save the
.mp4file.
On Mobile (Android)
- Open the Facebook app and find the Reel.
- Tap the share icon and select "Copy Link."
- Open your mobile browser and go to a Reels-compatible downloader site.
- Paste the URL, tap Download, and save to your device.
On iPhone (iOS)
- Copy the Reel's link via the share menu in the Facebook app.
- Open Safari and go to a downloader that supports Reels.
- Paste the link and initiate the download.
- When prompted, choose "Download Linked File" — the video saves to the Files app.
- Move it to your Camera Roll from the Files app if desired.
Downloading Facebook Stories
Stories present an extra challenge because they disappear after 24 hours. Speed is essential.
Saving Your Own Stories
If the Story is yours, the easiest method is to use Facebook's built-in archive feature:
- Go to your Profile and tap "Archive" under your profile picture.
- Find the Story, tap the three-dot menu, and select "Save to Device."
Saving Someone Else's Story
For public stories posted by others:
- Open the Story and look for a way to copy the link (available on desktop by right-clicking the video area or checking the browser address bar).
- Paste the URL into a downloader tool that specifically lists Story support.
- Download before the 24-hour expiry window closes.
Important: Only save stories from public profiles or with the person's permission. Saving someone's private Story without consent is an invasion of privacy.
Key Differences: Reels vs. Stories vs. Standard Videos
| Feature | Reels | Stories | Standard Video |
|---|---|---|---|
| Orientation | Vertical (9:16) | Vertical (9:16) | Horizontal (16:9) |
| Permanence | Permanent | 24 hours | Permanent |
| Max Length | Up to 90 seconds | Up to 20 seconds | No fixed limit |
| Downloader Support | Wide | Limited | Very Wide |
Troubleshooting Common Issues
- Tool says "invalid URL": Make sure you're copying the full URL, not just the post ID.
- No download option appears: The content may be private or the tool may not support Reels — try an alternative tool.
- Story link doesn't work: Stories links can expire or be unavailable depending on privacy settings — act fast.
- Video downloads but has no audio: This is rare but can happen if the audio track is separately licensed; try a different downloader.
